RATEL hosts FM44 working group – first step towards using satellite services on mobile phones in Europe
From 2 to 5 December, RATEL hosted the ninetieth meeting of the CEPT (European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations) FM44 working group, which deals with regulatory issues in the field of satellite radiocommunications and analyzes relevant topics in the field of satellite radiocommunications, at the request of the European Commission.
The key topic of the meeting, initiated at the request of the European Commission, was the beginning of work to study feasibility of and develop least restrictive harmonised technical conditions for the use of EU-harmonized frequency bands for terrestrial wireless systems providing electronic communications services by satellite systems providing complementary Direct-to-Device-IMT connectivity.
This document represents the first step in creating regulatory conditions that will enable the use of satellite services on user mobile phones.
The meeting was attended in-person by 14 representatives of administrations, while 93 participants followed the meeting online.
