The 28th Telecommunications Forum (Telfor) was opened by Tatjana Matić, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and took place on an online platform on November 24 and 25. Introductory speeches were delivered by Dragan Pejović, Director of RATEL, Predrag Ćulibrk, Director General of Telekom Srbija, Mike Michel, Director General of Telenor, Dejan Turk, Director General of Vip mobile and A1 Slovenia, and prof. dr Milo Tomašević, Dean of University of Belgrade School of Electrical Engineering.

“Total revenues generated in the last year’s electronic communications market amount to approximately 206.8 billion dinars, representing an increase by 4.1% compared to the year before. Revenues from electronic communications services account for 3.8% of the Serbian GDP. The majority of total revenues was generated through the provision of mobile telephony service accounting for 59.8% of the total income. Investments in the electronic communications sector in 2019 amounted to 84.2 billion dinars, which is twice as much than the previous year, when they were 41.7 billion dinars”, said Dragan Pejović, while presenting electronic communications market results for the previous year, adding that the electronic communications and postal markets seem to have successfully faced all challenges of business slowdown during the pandemic.

He went on to say that RATEL, as a regulatory body, had in the recent period been committed to implementing legal solutions in the domains of electronic communications, information security and particularly postal services, regulated under a new law since 2019, and that one of the priority tasks of RATEL was an efficient and effective radio frequency spectrum management.

Lastly, the Director highlighted RATEL’s permanent commitment to international cooperation in the areas of electronic communications, postal services and information security, with a special contribution and impact being made after the BEREC (Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications) Plenary Meeting held for the first time in Belgrade and attended by around 120 representatives from more than 30 European countries.

On the last day of Telfor, RATEL delivered two presentations themed around Mobile Network Benchmarking 2020 and Regulatory frame for 5G implementation in Serbia.
