Ratel marks 20 years of work
The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (Ratel) celebrated its 20th anniversary with a ceremony at the Palace of Science.
The celebration was attended by representatives of ministries, professional organizations, industry, universities and colleagues from regulatory authorities for electronic communications and postal services from Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro.
After a short retrospective film featuring the history and development of Ratel, a summary of the most significant activities and results over the past 20 years was provided.
The audience was then addressed by Ratel’s Director Dragan Pejović, who thanked the previous directors, Prof. Dr. Jovan Radunović, Dr. Milan Janković and Dr. Vladica Tintor, for the well-laid foundations of Ratel's development, as well as all employees who, as he stressed, are Ratel's greatest strength.
He particularly highlighted the results of the work in the last three years, during which Ratel participated in the drafting of the Law on Electronic Communications, the Law on Postal Services and the Law on Information Security, as well as 66 by-laws adopted on the basis of these laws. During this period, the last round of analysis of relevant markets was completed, along with the identification of operators with significant market power.
He also stated that around 12,000 complaints from end-users of electronic communications and postal services were processed, as well as 3,700 incidents in the field of information security. Also, the monitoring system was significantly expanded so that Ratel’s measuring equipment was installed at over 120 locations in urban and rural areas, which means that this system meets the highest European standards in terms of capacity and characteristics.
Director Pejović also emphasized that one of the most important activities was the successful implementation of the public tender procedure for issuing individual licenses for the use of the radio frequency spectrum in the bands used by mobile telephony operators, which enabled the commercial use of 5G pioneer bands.
The ceremony was completed with a performance by the choir of the Children's Cultural Center Belgrade and a tour of the Palace of Science.
