New postal service pathways at 27th UPU Congress

20.08.2021

Over the past two weeks, the representatives of 192 member states of the Universal Postal Union, participating in the 27th UPU Congress, discussed various key topics regarding international postal traffic issues and announced a possibility of introducing other non-postal, namely digital financial services into the postal industry, to create an inclusive, customer-centric environment.

The third week of the 27th UPU Congress is dedicated to the Plenary meeting where the acts already agreed upon in different committees are expected to be adopted.

The Congress has reached a decision that there will be no online voting. The voting process is therefore carried out directly, in the presence of a UPU member state representative. Proxy voting has also been made possible, along with special authorization given by another country that can appoint a proxy voter who is physically present to vote for them.

The last working week of the Congress is planned for the election of the next UPU IB director general and deputy director general, as well as the Council of Administration and Postal Operations Council members.

On behalf of the delegation of the Republic of Serbia, the Congress is attended by dr Nikola Trubint, also holding special authorization of the Republic of Georgia for proxy discussion and voting regarding all important issues, including participation in the constitutive meeting of the Postal Operations Council.
