RATEL representatives make part of RF spectrum monitoring team at Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

29.03.2024

Based on the agreement on cooperation between the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL) and the National Frequency Agency (ANFR), RATEL’s representatives will take part in the work of the radio frequency spectrum monitoring team during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France (Paris 2024).

At the behest of the French government, ANFR carries out RF spectrum monitoring during major events requiring multiple media coverage. Radio frequency spectrum monitoring, which implies monitoring of the use of RF spectrum and resolution of potential most usually complex interference is a key to a successful progress of the 2024 Games in Paris. Considering that the number of agents needed for the proper implementation of this project exceeds the staffing levels of the French administration, provision of experts from foreign administrations was necessary.

As part of preliminary preparations for the Paris 2024 technical support, on March 12-13, 2024, theoretical training was held for the purpose of acquainting the experts with the organisation of Paris 2024 and the procedures to be implemented. The measurement equipment, measurement station system and applied software solutions that will be used for RF spectrum monitoring were presented. The focus of the training was on the consistent implementation of the defined procedures, bearing in mind the scope of the event requiring 100,000 expected temporary permits, 10 cities where the competitions will take place and the hiring of 350 technical support agents, among whom 250 on-site engineers, out of whom 107 engineers of 19 foreign administrations. An interesting detail is that among them there are only three women, two of whom are from Serbia.

Participation in the Paris 2024 technical support team is a valuable opportunity for RATEL’s representatives to further develop cooperation with colleagues from other administrations and acquire additional professional experience and expert skills.
